Solid Traces
Location
Charleroi, Belgium
Solid Traces is opened for the festival of the Charleroi Danses in Belgium.
Role
Shizuka is an installation designer for this complex installation, which derives from the dance movements turning into three-dimensional scenography.
Project Type
It is more like an installation art rather than scenography. It strongly engages the choreographic language of Trish Brown as it captures movement turning to the sculpture by using mathematical data and analysed architectural three-dimensional data.

Solid Traces emerges as a captivating installation unveiled at the inauguration of the Charleroi Danses Festival Biennale. The scenography design received the World Stage Design 2017 in Taipei for the category of the site-specific design.
Composer Thierry De Mey orchestrates the concept and asks Shizuka to design this complex scenography, an innovative experience, weaving together the choreographic imprints of renowned dancer Trisha Brown into a mesmerising installation.
Under the creative stewardship of Shizuka Hariu and her team, SHSH Architecture + Scenography, the essence of De Mey's artistic vision is meticulously translated into tangible form. Leveraging mathematical data extracted from motion-captured computer analyses conducted at the University of Mons, architectural blueprints are meticulously crafted, guiding the hands of skilled technicians in bringing this ephemeral sculpture to life.
The resulting installation is a testament to interdisciplinary collaboration, a harmonious fusion of art, technology, and design. As solid traces of movement materialise into tangible form, Solid Traces emerges as a thrilling exploration into discovery and experimentation.
